Texas A&M: The Aggies got to 8-4 on the back of a 74-72 seven-overtime epic against LSU in the final week of the season. A&M lost 28-26 at home to Clemson in Week 2 and then 45-23 on the road at Alabama in Week 4. A&M improved to 5-2 after the 3-2 start before losing on the road at Mississippi State and Auburn in back-to-back weeks. Three straight wins over Ole Miss, UAB and LSU closed out the season.

NC State: The Wolfpack started the season 5-0 before losing 41-7 at Clemson. A 51-41 loss at Syracuse followed before NC State got back on track by drubbing Florida State. The most surprising loss of the season came after the FSU game when Wake Forest took down NC State on a Thursday night in Raleigh. NC State rallied to win its last three games but Clemson and Syracuse are the only ranked teams the Wolfpack has faced in 2018.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH
Because staying home and watching football before going to bed before midnight is far better than paying too much to go out on New Year’s Eve. Oh, and it’s the last college game for NC State’s Ryan Finley, a quarterback you’ll hear more about in the lead up to the NFL draft.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Trayveon Williams, RB, Texas A&M: Williams is having the best season you may be unaware of. He has 252 carries for 1,524 yards and 15 touchdowns. That’s six yards a carry and more than 1,100 yards than Kellen Mond, A&M’s second-leading rusher. He’s also chipped in with 27 catches for 278 yards and a score. Williams has topped 100 yards in each of the last four games and has broken the century mark in eight games in 2018.

Reggie Gallaspy, RB, NC State: Gallaspy has rushed for 1,014 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2018. Seven of those scores have come in the past two games as well. He had 129 yards and five touchdowns in a win over North Carolina and then had 220 yards and two scores in a Dec. 1 game vs. East Carolina to make up for a canceled game against West Virginia. NC State is 4-0 when Gallaspy has more than 100 yards.

WHAT’S ON THE LINE
Texas A&M: The Aggies have lost three straight bowl games. A nine-win season, something the Aggies haven’t done since 2013, in Jimbo Fisher’s first season will be a success. But may also over-inflate expectations.

NC State: A win would mean the first 10-win season for NC State since the Wolfpack were 11-3 under Chuck Amato in 2002. It would also be a third straight bowl victory for the program.

PREDICTIONS
Nick Bromberg: Texas A&M 33, NC State 20
Sam Cooper: Texas A&M 38, NC State 24
Pat Forde: NC State 33, Texas A&M 31
