The New Mexico Lobos will travel to Romney Stadium to take on the Utah State Aggies this upcoming Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The New Mexico Lobos lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 3-4 (1-2 MW) on the season after being defeated by the Fresno State Bulldogs, 38-7, this past Saturday. New Mexico had no answers for the Bulldogs on either side of the ball and couldn’t fight back after Fresno State took a 31-7 lead with just 8:32 left in regulation. New Mexico was outgained by a 433-295 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Lobos was RB Tyrone Owens who had 83 rushing yards on 19 carries. On the season, New Mexico is averaging 33.7 ppg on 413.9 total yards per game (222.3 passing yds/g; 191.6 rushing yds/g). Offensively, New Mexico has been led by RB Tyrone Owens who had 6 rushing TD’s on the season while averaging 72.4 yds/g on 18.9 att/g. QB Sheriron Jones has completed 56.2% of his passes for 13 TD & 7 INT while averaging 156.0 passing yds/g. The top receivers for Jones and the Lobos have been Elijah Lilly (2.3 rec/g; 47.3 yds/g; 5 TD), Delane Hart-Johnson (3.1 rec/g; 42.9 yds/g; 4 TD), Anselem Umeh (1.7 rec/g; 32.4 yds/g; TD), and Patrick Reed (0.8 rec/g; 29.3 yds/g; 2 TD). Defensively, New Mexico is allowing their opponents to average 32.0 ppg on 441.7 total yards per game (272.6 passing yds/g; 169.1 rushing yds/g).

The Utah State Aggies won their 6th straight game and improved to 6-1 (3-0 MW) on the season after defeating the Wyoming Cowboys, 24-16, this past Saturday. The high-scoring Utah State offense had all they could handle from the Wyoming defense however, was able to hang on for the victory after taking a 24-6 lead with 4:11 left in the 3rd quarter. Utah State was outgained by Wyoming by a 331-194 margin however, did win the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin. Leading the way for the Aggies was RB Darwin Thompson who had 109 rushing yards and 2 TD’s on 17 carries. On the season, Utah State is averaging 47.7 ppg on 438.0 total yards per game (247.6 passing yds/g; 190.4 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Utah State has been led by QB Jordon Love who had completed 64.0% of his passes for 14 TD & 4 INT while averaging 230.0 passing yds/g. The top targets for Love and the Aggies have been Jalen Greene (3.1 rec/g; 44.6 yds/g; 3 TD), Ron’quavion Tarver (4.3 rec/g; 43.6 yds/g; 4 TD), and Dax Raymond (3.2 rec/g; 43.4 yds/g; TD). The Aggies backfield has been led by the duo of Darwin Thompson (10.4 att/g; 76.4 yds/g; 9 TD) and Gerold Bright (11.0 att/g; 65.1 yds/g; 4 TD). Defensively, Utah State is holding their opponents to an average of 22.7 ppg on 360.9 total yards per game (193.3 passing yds/g; 167.6 rushing yds/g).

The Lobos are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS loss and just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 conference games. The Aggies are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

It hasn’t been a great season for the Lobos as although their offense has been able to generate some points, their defense has really struggled as they rank 98th in scoring defense and has really struggled agianst the pass, ranking 114th. Utah State was held to under 30 points for the first time all season agianst the Cowboys, however, they still come into this matchup with one of the best scoring offenses in the country as it currently ranks 4th in College Football. Utah State can beat you both in the ground and through the air and as they have averaged an incredible 58.5 ppg at home this season, I think Utah State has no trouble covering this large spread against the Lobos.
